MENTAL HEALTH INFORMATION
Understanding
panic disorder.
Panic disorder can involve recurring, unexpected panic attacks and worry about another episode. One panic attack does not by itself mean panic disorder.
01
What you may notice
Panic can involve a racing heart, trembling, dizziness or breathlessness.
02
The wider impact
Fear of another attack may lead to changes in everyday activities.
03
Why assessment matters
Physical health and other possible explanations need consideration.
A CONSIDERED APPROACH
Understand first.
Decide together.
A careful assessment considers symptoms, health history and their impact. Treatment may include psychotherapy, medication or both, according to individual needs.

COMMON QUESTIONS
A clearer
conversation.
Is a panic attack the same as panic disorder?
No. A clinician considers recurring attacks, ongoing worry, changes in behaviour and other possible causes.
When should physical symptoms be checked urgently?
New or severe chest pain, fainting or significant breathing difficulties need urgent medical assessment. Do not assume unfamiliar symptoms are anxiety.
